A goal in the 100th minute, more than 33,000 fans in the stands, and three points for the White Star! Kacper Duda became the hero of Saturday’s match against Raków Częstochowa, scoring his first goal in the PKO BP Ekstraklasa. After the 2-1 win, the Wisła Kraków midfielder spoke about the emotions surrounding the decisive goal, the exceptional atmosphere at Reymonta, and an unusual situation that took place a few days before the match.
W the final seconds of Saturday’s match against Raków Częstochowa, Kacper Duda secured all three points for Wisła Kraków. For the 22-year-old midfielder, it was his first goal at the highest level of competition, and the circumstances in which he scored meant the moment would stay with him for a long time.
- It’s hard to describe the emotions. What did I feel? Joy. I don’t know if I could really talk about my feelings and what was going through my mind at the time. If I had to sum it up in one word, I’d say euphoria. There was so much adrenaline, and at that moment I wasn’t thinking about anything except how happy I was - said Kacper Duda.
Although it’s hard not to see scoring his first goal in such exceptional circumstances as a dream scenario, the player admitted he would have preferred the team to decide matches much earlier.
- I think a better outcome may not be possible, but I also wouldn’t want the games to keep being decided in the final moments every time, because our fans probably aren’t happy about it either, as it must be quite stressful for them. Ideally, we’d wrap up games earlier and control them throughout. That said, I won’t complain about how things turned out - he stressed.
Saturday’s victory was Wisła Kraków’s sixth win in their sixth home match of the current season. Duda had no doubt that one of the most important elements of this impressive run was the support of the fans, who once again created a special atmosphere at Reymonta.
- We have one more player from the start of the match. When we come out here, for example, we hadn’t played for two weeks in a row, plus there was the international break, so I missed it, honestly. I had time to miss coming out here onto the pitch. And after the first couple of plays, when our fans shouted, I knew that today had to be another win. Especially since I think the Raków players were also feeling nervous and knew they were playing against a great club in good form, with incredible fans - noted the White Star midfielder.
Interestingly, Kacper Duda’s first goal had been predicted in a way before the match. While filming the “Turbokozak” program, CANAL+ Sport journalist Bartosz Ignacik asked the player to invite fans to the match and declare that he would score his first goal in the PKO BP Ekstraklasa. A few days later, those words became reality.
- A really funny situation, honestly, because I never expected anything like that. Even before we started recording, he came up to me and asked me to do an introduction and say that I was inviting people to the match and that I’d score my first goal there. I actually completely forgot about it right afterward and didn’t think about it. And then it happened. We talked after the match and said it was a really funny situation. It was a really interesting moment - Duda concluded.
His first Ekstraklasa goal, scored in the final seconds of the match, secured Wisła Kraków a 2:1 victory over Raków Częstochowa and kept their perfect home record intact in the current season.
